Auburn’s mammoth freshman tight end stole the show during the Tigers’ 30-28 win over Arkansas on Saturday.
J.J. Pegues, who is 6-foot-2 and 300 pounds, took a handoff around the right side and gained 11 yards on the Tigers’ first play of the first quarter. Two plays later, he ran one yard up the middle. His third carry came later in the first quarter for no gain, but Pegues still surpassed his total for the season through the first two games just in the first 15 minutes of Saturday’s win.
Pegues is hard to miss on the football field to begin with, but his performance against Arkansas garnered the attention and adoration of many Auburn fans, whose team (2-1) was coming off a tough loss to Georgia the week before.
The Oxford, Miss. native was ranked among the 2020 recruiting classes top-10 “athletes,” according to 247 Sports, coming in at No. 6.
