A 9-year-old Michigan boy who was being towed on a sled behind his dad’s Jeep went out of control during the stunt, smashed into a parked car and was left in critical condition, according to reports.
Police said they were called to the snow-covered cul-de-sac in the Detroit suburb of Rochester Hills around 1:15 p.m. Saturday after the accident and found the boy seriously injured, the Detroit Free Press reported Monday.
The child was rushed to nearby Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital but later had to be air-lifted to the Children’s Hospital in Detroit, where he was listed in critical condition, the paper said.
The boy’s 37-year-old father told cops that he was driving his 2009 Jeep Wrangler in circles in the cul-de-sac with the boy on a plastic sled tied to the back of the vehicle — when the sled slammed into a parked Ford Fusion.
Police said the man was visiting relatives in the area and that alcohol did not appear to be a factor, although the accident remains under investigation, WJBK-TV said.
No charges have been announced by police.
