Aaron Rodgers to Return to ‘Jeopardy’ as Guest Host

After giving the classic game show a try as a contestant on Celebrity Jeopardy back in 2015, NFL star Aaron Rodgers is returning to Jeopardy as an interim guest host, Deadline reports. The Green Bay Packers quarterback revealed the news in an interview with Sirius XM’s Pat McAfee as a guest on Mad Dog Sports Radio earlier today.

“One of my idols growing up was Alex Trebek, and being able to be on Jeopardy years ago, even though my outfit wasn’t the greatest choice … they’re doing some guest hosting spots, and it’s going to be released here pretty soon, but I have the opportunity to be one of those,” Rodgers said.

“I’m really excited about it. We’ve been talking about it for a little bit,” he added this afternoon, per Packers.com. “I think I may have jumped the gun a little bit so I apologize to Jeopardy if they wanted to announce it, I just got so excited on the show earlier. It just went down the last couple of days, us figuring it out. It is very exciting, it’s for the offseason, we’ll be even more excited when that opportunity gets a little closer.”

When the pro athlete was last on the show, he competed for the Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, beating Shark Tank‘s Kevin O’Leary and retired astronaut Mark Kelly to earn $50,000 for the charity. Rodgers, a lifelong Jeopardy fan, said it was a “dream come true” to meet Trebek in 2015. “I’ve said it before I think when he passed, but there’s this nostalgic connection to certain figures in our life based on our childhood and where we were at and the times we had those memories, it almost makes these people feel like family, like you know them,” he added.

Rodgers’ announcement comes not long after Jeopardy GOAT Ken Jennings took over hosting duties as the first guest host on Monday night, following Trebek’s emotional last episode on Friday, which was filmed just 10 days before his death in November. “Not many things in life are perfect, but Alex did this job pretty much perfectly for more than 36 years, and it was even better up close,” Jennings said at the start of his first show. “We were dazzled by his intelligence, his charm, his grace — really, there’s no other word for it.”

Jeopardy airs new episodes weekdays at 7/6c on ABC.
