Even the Rockets announcers are sick of the James Harden drama.
Longtime play-by-play man Bill Worrell exclaimed, “Who needs James Harden?” after an impressive finish by newly-signed Christian Wood in the Rockets’ 128-106 preseason win over the Spurs on Thursday night.
Harden continues to seek a trade from the Rockets to a contender. The two sides have agreed to an awkward co-existence with the regular season starting Tuesday. According to ESPN.com, the Rockets have started expanding their trade options beyond Harden’s wish list of the Nets and 76ers.
Wood, who broke out last season with the Pistons, was the Rockets’ biggest offseason addition — signed to a three-year, $41 million deal. The forward had 27 points and 10 rebounds in his debut after missing the first three preseason games with a sore elbow.
“He’s similar to, like, Anthony Davis,” Rockets guard Eric Gordon said of the 25-year-old Wood. “Because he can shoot, and get to the rim. He’s still learning and adjusting. He’s still young, and he’s going to have a more prominent role here than he has before at any time in his career.”
