Keep Christian McCaffrey’s name out of the NFL’s never-ending quarterback drama.
McCaffrey responded to ESPN reporter David Newton’s characterization of an interview the star running back did on “First Take” Wednesday morning that involved quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Newton said McCaffrey “didn’t show support” for Bridgewater, and McCaffrey pushed back against that claim.
Bridgewater had an up-and-down first season with Carolina after signing a three-year, $63 million contract in the offseason. It did not help that McCaffrey, by far the team’s best offensive weapon, missed all but three games due to various injuries.
The Deshaun Watson trade rumors make Bridgewater’s future a situation worth monitoring. NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport identified the Panthers as the “dark horse” team in the sweepstakes to acquire the disgruntled quarterback from the Texans.
