Queen reunites with Prince Philip to spend lockdown in ‘HMS Bubble’

Queen Elizabeth II and her 99-year-old husband have returned to their “HMS Bubble” at Windsor Castle just days ahead of a UK lockdown — and in time for their 73rd wedding anniversary.

The 94-year-old monarch spent time away from husband Prince Philip this month while she carried out her royal duties and he remained at their country estate, Sandringham, The Sun noted.

But they reunited at the weekend, and on Monday — just three days before the UK goes into a second strict lockdown — headed to Windsor Castle together, Buckingham Palace said.

The castle is where they spent the first lockdown, and is widely dubbed “HMS Bubble” because of the strictly enforced smaller staffing levels, Sky News noted.

It also means they know they will be together for their anniversary on Nov. 20, the reports noted.

Royal author Penny Junor called them a “marvelous old couple,” telling Sky News, “I just think it’s very nice if they are together in the same residence and same part of the world. It’s company for one another.”

The royal family has already been hurt by the coronavirus pandemic, with the Queen’s eldest son, heir to the throne Prince Charles, going into isolation in March after testing positive.

On Sunday, it was reported that Prince William had also been secretly “hit pretty hard by the virus” in April — and it “really knocked him for six’ and left him “struggling to breathe.”

Many royal watchers fear that the pandemic and lockdowns mean the royal family will not hold its traditional festive celebrations.

“We won’t be commenting on future arrangements or Christmas at this stage,” the palace spokesperson said.
