Villanova vs. Georgetown: Take Over in classic Big East matchup

There are big games away from the gridiron on Sunday. On the hardwood, Villanova will look to rebound from its upset loss to St. John’s when the Wildcats host Georgetown, which they’ve already defeated by double digits this season.

While Villanova is coming off that loss to the Red Storm as a double-digit favorite, Georgetown is coming off of a win over Creighton as a double-digit underdog thanks to making 10 of its 21 3-point attempts.

The Hoyas have shot significantly better from 3-point range on the road than at home, making 40.2 percent of their outside shots in games outside of the nation’s capital, while hitting just 32.8 percent of their 3-pointers at home.

The Wildcats’ weak point is 3-point shooting defense (they allow teams to make 36.9 percent of their 3-point shots, which ranks 301st in the country in that category), but they should be able to exploit Georgetown’s big defensive weakness.

In Villanova’s loss to St. John’s, one of the nation’s most efficient point guards, Collin Gillespie, had six turnovers after committing just seven in the previous eight games combined. He should go back to his efficient ways on Sunday against a Georgetown bunch that forces the sixth-fewest turnovers on a per possession basis.

With Villanova scoring the ninth-most points on a per possession basis in college basketball, but ranking 336th in the percentage of shots on defense that they block, both teams should get plenty of clean looks and mimic the expectations in Tampa for Sunday with lots of scoring.

The play: Georgetown vs. Villanova Total Over 141 points.
